SOPHIE LAWRENCE

My name is Sophie Lawrence, from Newcastle, NSW.
Throughout my school life I trained in various styles of dance including jazz, modern/contemporary, tap, classical ballet and hip-hop. During this time it is safe to say my heart lived on the stage as I competed in over 50 eisteddfods and performed at countless local studio showcases and fundraisers.

As my love of dance and performance blossomed, I sought opportunities in assistant dance teaching from the early age of 12. I am blessed to now have 9 years of experience as a dance teacher.

I completed all examinations in jazz, tap and classical ballet with Australian Dance Vision. I have worked with multitudes of dance professionals in classes and workshops in order to establish a broad sense diversity and variety in my dance skill set. I am now working to attain national recognition for my qualifications with The Australian Dance Institute as I gain my Certificate IV in Dance Teaching and Management.
Between 2012-2013 my focus largely landed on providing dance education to disadvantaged students in regional/remote NSW as a not for profit program. I regard this as one of my proudest achievements in my career so far. I have also pursued many avenues as a professional performer. I have worked with theatre restaurants as a themed characters and cabaret/burlesque entertainment for 2 years, been involved with events across Australia as a freelance performer including Festival of Creativity UON 2014, Melbourne Art Festival 2013, and appeared in musicals such as Hairspray, Matilda, Alice in Wonderland and many more.

I am so excited to be a part of the tremendous Petite Stars team, as I truly believe EVERY dancer has the potential to shine like the star they are! I aim to captivate every student with enthusiasm, to nurture creativity and confidence, and achieve real magic through dance!
